Yes, they're being paid. Yes, they probably share the same ideals as their employer. And yes, they're probably just as insane as the villain, but it just seems strange that even in films like the Resident Evil series or a James Bond movie, that dozens (maybe even hundreds) of highly-trained mercenaries wouldn't once question the logic behind their bosses schemes.

Obviously we can't hang on this logical thread all the time; there would be no henchmen for Eggsy to shoot in Kingsmen or generic grunts for Ethan Hunt to jaw-break in Mission Impossible. But let's be honest when we say that these guys did not sign up for world destruction when they took a job working for Blofeld.

Even if they are being paid, what are they going to spend their money on when half of society is in ashes? However this trope is challenged brilliantly in Iron Man 3 when one henchman admits that the gang he signed up for is weird and flees before Tony Stark can put him down.

But outside of that, bad guys just seem to go along with their employers maniacal ideas. Must have been one heck of a sales pitch.

I overthink a lot of things. Will talk about pretty much anything for a great length of time. I'm obsessed with General Slocum from the 2002 Spider-Man film. I have questions that were never answered in that entire trilogy!
