10 Weird Rules That Only Ever Work In TV & Movies

7. Discreet Conversations Never Attract Attention

Think about any James Bond, Mission: Impossible or any episode of 24 where a character has wandered into a public place wearing an earpiece in and is talking freely as if the guy on the other end is standing right next to them.

Now imagine if you will, a member of the public walking past that character and turning their head in confusion to the sight of a person muttering something along the lines of "stay sharp" or "he's heading East".

Wouldn't we all notice this a bit more in real life? If a person was casually strolling round shops or casinos talking to themself and eyeing everyone around them, they would stick out immediately.

Not once has it ever occurred to these characters to pretend to be on the phone? For many films about people who are experts in clandestine activity, they're not working hard to be discreet.

Don't agree with this point? Tomorrow, go to your local shopping centre alone. Sit in café, thumb through some books, run your fingertips through the nightgowns in Next, and mutter a one-way conversation to yourself. See how long it takes before you're escorted out the building.

Extra points if you actually follow someone.

I overthink a lot of things. Will talk about pretty much anything for a great length of time. I'm obsessed with General Slocum from the 2002 Spider-Man film. I have questions that were never answered in that entire trilogy!
