10 Weirdly Feel-Good Horror Movies With Happy Endings

8. The Sixth Sense

Shaun Of The Dead
Buena Vista Pictures

The Movie: Wide-eyed boychild Cole sees dead people everywhere he turns and naturally is a tad nervy as a result much to the consternation of his overworked single mother Lynn who thinks he’s mad rather than psychically inclined. Luckily, Bruce Willis is on hand playing child psychologist Malcolm Crowe to help the haunted mite out.

After Malcom suggests to Cole that the freaky ghosts stalking him may simply be looking for his help, he goes about trying to help the dead with their unfinished business which seems to appease them somewhat and they begin to tone down their campaign to scare the living daylights out of the poor lad. And us.

The Happy Ending: We all know now that The Sixth Sense is the origin of the M Night Shyamalan plot twist but in case you’ve been living under a rock for the past 20 years, it turns out that Bruce Willis is also (shock, horror!) a ghost. That might seem more a sad ending at first, but his realisation that he’s actually dead allows him to make peace with his demise and go party in heaven with all the other dead folk.

As for the haunted Cole, after he reveals some particularly emotional info imparted from Lynn’s own dearly departed mother she finally believes her son isn’t crazy after all. Also, that he may have a rather lucrative future in the séance industry.
