10 Weirdly Feel-Good Horror Movies With Happy Endings

7. Spring

The Movie: Described as Richard Linklater meets Lovecraft, Spring is a romantic horror that follows grieving young American Evan who travels to Italy following the death of his mother. There he meets Louise – a beautiful young woman who he quickly falls head over heels with after a one-night stand but is guarding a big secret. And no, it isn’t something superficial like a third nipple or webbed feet.

It turns out that Louise is actually an immortal 2000-year-old shape-shifting mutant who regenerates every 20 years by purposefully getting pregnant – hence her and Evan’s one-night stand – and uses the embryo’s cells to recreate herself.

Should Louise ever fall in love the oxytocin (aka ‘the love hormone’) produced by her body will prevent her regeneration and render her a mere mortal.

The Happy Ending: While Evan is besotted, Louise is adamant she won’t give up her immortality for anybody but agrees to spend the last 24 hours before her next transformation with him.

She takes him to the ruins of Pompeii where her family died after the eruption of Mount Vesuvius and Evan begs Louise to stay with him who explains she has no control over the process. Just as it seems she’s about to regenerate, Louise’s oxytocin kicks in as it transpires she is indeed in love with Evan and a mortal human she will stay.

It turns out that love does conquer all, even Louise’s mutant genes and there’s the likelihood they’ll be hearing the pitter-patter of tiny, immortal mutant feet in about nine or so months.
