10 Wild Ideas For The Hulk In Phase 5

7. She-Hulk: Origins

World War Hulk
Marvel Comics

The first of three suggestions for Bruce Banner’s guest appearance in the She-Hulk Disney+ series, this sees the origin story for everyone’s favourite seven foot tall jade jurist.

There’s no real need to diverge from the comics too far: shot during the course of prosecuting organised crime, assistant DA Jennifer Walters is in critical condition and in need of an urgent blood transfusion… but less than 1% of the population share her rare AB negative blood type, and there’s none in stock. Luckily the hospital have a note on her file that her cousin is one of those people, and he lives in New York…

Faced with losing the only family he has left, Bruce Banner reluctantly uses a fall back serum to trigger a transformation back to his human form so that he can give blood. But the whole thing was a set-up. The shooting, the disappearance of the stock of AB negative and the call to Banner were all engineered to get him in this position: human and vulnerable.

Sedated, Bruce is kidnapped by persons unknown. Meanwhile, in the operating theatre, something is happening that wasn’t part of the plan. Following the transfusion of irradiated AB negative, Jen is getting up off the table - but Jen isn’t Jen anymore.

From there you can have She-Hulk pursue her cousin’s kidnapper (spoiler alert - it’s the Leader), you can have a reversion to the savage Hulk to set Bruce up as a secondary antagonist: you can go any number of ways, really...
