Let’s ignore for the moment the plot machinations needed for T’Challa and Shuri to reclaim their position as Wakanda’s royal family, given that they were both dead for five years.

At the start of Black Panther 2, as the man who resurrected the Black Panther and his sister and restored the King to his throne, Banner is invited to Wakanda to take part in the celebrations. But there’s a problem.

Badly burned by the backlash from his use of the Infinity Gauntlet, Banner’s found that wounds caused in this manner don’t heal, even if you’re the Hulk. Ordinarily, Hulking out would take care of any significant injuries as a side effect of the transformation, but since supposedly evolving into his Smart Hulk form, Banner doesn’t transform anymore. The pain is excruciating, debilitating… and there’s not a sedative in the world that can affect him.

In the middle of Wakanda’s capital city, surrounded by fireworks, music and dancing, no amount of meditation can distract him. He snaps, losing his cool, losing his diction, losing his mind…

It’s been a long time since the savage Hulk came out, and Bruce has a lot of pent-up anger. Indestructible, with a near instantaneous healing factor, the Hulk’s never felt chronic pain before, and the madder he gets, the stronger he gets. The Hulk takes Birnin Zana apart, until he’s faced with T’Challa, Shuri and the might of the Wakandan army.

But being attacked by the military is second nature to the maddened beast...
