10 Most Wildly Inconsistent Actors In Movie History
3. Michael Caine
Michael Caine has made so many movies, it's hard to know where to start approaching the man as an actor. What we know for sure is that he brings a warmth and energy to pretty much every movie that he's in, but there are only really two kinds of Michael Caine performance: those where he is Michael Caine, and those where he's sort of Michael Caine, but not totally Michael Caine. That sounds like an attack on his range as an actor, but it's not suppose to be: Caine is the success story that he is today entirely for those reasons. Still, good as he very nearly always is, there's a tendency with Michael Caine to feel like his roles are often very "samey" - this largely stems from the fact that the man is an unstoppable work machine, and has even admitted to rarely turning down an offer to be in a movie (hence Jaws 4: The Revenge). So marvel over his wonderful performances in pictures such as Alfie, Hannah and Her Sisters, The Cider House Rules, The Quiet American, and Children of Men - and consider near-on twenty others as mere filler, many of which are largely forgettable.
