10 Woefully Miscast Actors In Comic Book Movies
3. Nicolas Cage As Ghost Rider - Ghost Rider/Ghost Rider: Spirit Of Vengeance
In comic book form, the most famous Ghost Rider is stuntman Johnny Blaze, who gives his soul to Satan, is given supernatural powers and tasked with enacting vengeance on those on Earth who have sinned.
Nicolas Cage was 43 when Ghost Rider was released in 2007, and 48 in 2012 when sequel Spirit of Vengeance was released, meaning he was clearly too old for the role given that Johnny Blaze is supposed to be in his late 20’s/early 30. Seeing as making him wear a blonde wig would look ridiculous, he was instead given a dark black wig (not that this was much better). Age and look aside however, the main issue in these movies was the performances.
As he so often does, Cage puts his all into the role; he chews up the scenery, hams up the performance and sprouts corny one-liners. None of these fit into the character at all, who in the comic books is far more reserved, haunted by his past and frankly, far cooler than he comes across in both films.
Nicolas Cage brand of acting almost defies logic, and he really is in a league of his own, unfortunately it seriously did not work in either of the Ghost Rider films.
