10 Women Who Should Be The Next James Bond
5. Karen Gillan
According to the cobbled together backstory that Ian Fleming did for The Times one year, James Bond's birthday is in November, he had a Scottish father, and can ski pretty well. These are three boxes that Karen Gillian ticks with the most gratuitous of pens. Granted it also says that he's a man with black hair in his late 30s, but this is precisely what "creative license" was invented for.
Gillan has, since her breakthrough role on Doctor Who, gone on to become a bonafide A-Lister of both big and small screen. After something of a scene-stealing part in Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy (well, the ones she was in), she landed the starring role on ABC's Selfie. I mean, Selfie was impossibly awful and cancelled midway through its first season, but even Daniel Day-Lewis would have struggled with a premise of simply "person who has an instagram account". Gillan wasn't actually bad in it.
At 28 her age is probably working against her for such a huge part, and it's likely that anyone under 35 would require another Casino Royale style origin story or a pre-M16 setting. But the bigger issue here though is that Karen Gillan should be in everything. Being the new Bond would be great, but only as a stepping stone to complete saturation of the entertainment industry.
