8. Officer Trubiano - You're Next
Adam Wingard's You're Next is a terrifically subversive horror film in which a fleet of home invaders get far more than they bargained for when one of their victims, Erin (Sharni Vinson), turns out to have been raised on a survivalist compound.
The film ends with Erin killing her duplicitous boyfriend Crispin (A. J. Bowen), at which point she's shot in the shoulder by a cop, Officer Trubiano (Calvin Reeder), who witnessed her act and believes her to be the real killer.
Trubiano, who shot Erin from outside the house, then calls for backup and crosses the threshold into the property, at which point Erin screams at him to stay away, realising he's triggered one of the traps she previously set.
And so, the film ends with her trap going off: a rigged axe falls from the ceiling and we cut to the movie's blood-splattered end credits, indicating that this poor cop just got a fatal, soggy dent in the skull.
While undeniably disgusting, it's also a darkly hilarious punchline on which to end the story. Erin can probably blame it on the bad guys though, right?
