The X-Men prequels managed to resurrect the mutant action franchise from several misfires and blunt endings, bringing in a new cast to breathe life into old characters. And, for two-point-five films at least, it succeeded.

While most of the recasts make sense, given that these are younger versions of the characters, there are a few that stick out. One in particular wound up being only a small part in X-Men: Apocalypse, Blob. Originally played by Kevin Durand in the unfortunate X-Men Origins: Wolverine (2009), he shone through as one of the characters the film got right, embodying every ounce of the big guy in a ring fight with Hugh Jackman's Wolverine.

Fast forward to Apocalypse, and Durand was replaced by Giant Gustav Claude Ouimet for a brief scene in a cage match with Angel (Ben Hardy). Ouimet's performance is a bit-part, paying the barest lip service to the character in a scene designed only to highlight the fighting skills of his winged opponent.

But there was no need to recast him at all. The thing is, X-Men: Apocalypse is set in 1983, and the bulk of the action in Origins takes place in 1979, just four years prior. Durand could have returned for another round in the ring, slapped us with some more of the sassy slob's star power and given the scene some spice.
