10 Worst Big Money Trilogies Of All Time

8. Spider-Man

Total Box Office: $2.5 billion Sometimes a trilogy can fall foul at the very last hurdle and that was the unfortunate case with Sam Raimi€™s mostly brilliant Spider-Man series. The first two films of the trilogy were pretty much universally loved, managing to both woo critics and cinemagoers alike and achieving record-breaking box office sales. But what happened next was as spectacularly bad as the first two were great. Sadly, Spider-Man 3 had fans asking themselves what the hell had happened to the once very promising trilogy. Its convoluted plotline, overabundance of villains and Tobey Maguire€™s bizarre dancing conspired to make it the worst received part of the trilogy and even Raimi himself was disappointed with the film calling it awful in a Nerdist podcast and stating, €˜It€™s a movie that just didn€™t work very well. I tried to make it work, but I didn€™t really believe in all the characters, so that couldn€™t be hidden from people who loved Spider-Man€™. Unsurprisingly the planned fourth instalment was cancelled before it came into fruition though its reboot, The Amazing Spider-Man, hit screens in 2012.
