10 Worst CGI Effects In Sci-Fi Movies
7. Star Wars Episode II: Attack Of The Clones - Anakin Goes Shaak Surfing
Much of the CGI on show throughout the highly divisive Star Wars prequel trilogy is among the very best to be thrown into a sci-fi feature set in space.
The jaw-dropping dogfights in space, menacing General Grievous and outstanding pod race still hold up all these years later and the various detailed environments such as Coruscant, Kashyyyk and Mustafar all felt like places our characters were legitimately living and breathing in.
Yet, there was the odd CGI clusterf*ck which quickly undid some of that sensational work.
One of these moments took place during Anakin and Padme's now infamous romantic vacation on Naboo in Attack of the Clones (2002). Taking a break away from discussing his view on politics, the young Jedi decides to ride a grass eating herbivore known as a Shaak.
The act itself was enough to leave any audience member cringing in their seats, but the shoddy CGI used to create the beast took this agonising scene to a whole new level of awkward.
Thankfully, other alien creatures like the Reek, Acklay and Nexu were all convincingly revealed later in the feature. Yet, no amount of epic face-offs with six legged monstrosities could erase the memory of young Skywalker being trampled by a poorly crafted potato with legs.
