10 Worst CGI Effects In Sci-Fi Movies

5. Tron: Legacy - Young Jeff Bridges Fails To Deliver

Much of the talk going into Tron: Legacy (2010) centred around the ground-breaking CGI de-ageing of star Jeff Bridges.

This was one of the first times filmmakers had attempted to convincingly de-age an actor for a role, with other films such as The Curious Case of Benjamin Button (2008) and X-Men: The Last Stand (2006) also dipping their toe into the CGI time travelling pool around this time, too.

Yet, despite the rest of the film's effects definitely delivering, the ambitious effects used to roll back the years for Bridges' digitally created character of Clu still looked noticeably artificial and quickly pulled people out of what was an aesthetically pleasing feature up until that point.

The tool of de-ageing has come on heaps and bounds in the decade since Legacy was produced and everything from Gangster features (The Irishman, 2019) to Middle-earth adventures (The Hobbit series 2012-2014) have used this ever-growing technology to produce convincing younger iterations of their performers.

However, this early de-ageing experiment ultimately failed upon Legacy's release and now acts as a clear reminder of just how jarring de-ageing can be if it's not pulled off effectively.
