10 Worst CGI Moments From 2022 Movies

4. Axl's Floating Head - Thor: Love & Thunder

Thor: Love and Thunder's visual presentation received generally mixed reviews from critics and fans alike, with many noting the apparent over-use of The Volume technology - possibly due to the pandemic - ensuring the majority of the film's environments looked incredibly small and confined.

But by far the most-ridiculed VFX moment of the entire movie involved Thor (Chris Hemsworth) having a quick chit-chat with Heimdall's (Idris Elba) son Axl (Kieron L. Dyer), who has been kidnapped by Gorr the God Butcher (Christian Bale).

Axl manages to communicate with Thor by appearing to him as a floating head... because reasons.

The theatrical version of the scene was widely mocked for looking like a cheaply thrown-together digital cut-out without any discernible style whatsoever.

Fans were vocal enough that Disney actually went back and "fixed" the CGI for the home video release, though the improvement was incremental at best, and it ultimately still looks like a free Adobe After Effects plug-in applied by a fed-up intern on a Friday afternoon.
