10 Worst CGI Moments In Star Wars
1. Mos Eisley Gets A Facelift - Star Wars: A New Hope (Special Edition)
Arguably the most extensive and egregious CGI moment in the entire Star Wars franchise is the reworked Special Edition version of A New Hope's iconic Mos Eisley introduction.
George Lucas ill-advisedly gave entire shots icky CGI remakes, inserted VFX shots that weren't even in the original, and worst of all, aggressively integrated jarring CGI elements into existing shots.
These additions give Mos Eisley an almost plastic-y aesthetic which feels a million miles away from the "wretched hive of scum and villainy" Obi-Wan (Alec Guinness) famously describes it as.
The relentless inclusion of distracting CGI beasts culminates in what's easily the scene's most complained-about moment: a dinosaur-like ronto pointlessly walks in front of the camera for a few seconds too many, totally obscuring the audience's view of the heroes.
Even if these embellishments actually matched the practical grit of the 1977 shoot, they'd still make Mos Eisley seem more bustling, even welcoming, than it ever should.
