10 Worst Comic Book Movie Climaxes

8. Superman III

Green Lantern Parallax
Warner Bros.

Superman III is a weird movie on all counts, and its third act is a cacophony of bizarre concepts that only makes it weirder. Yes, weirder than the slapstick opening credits sequence that plays like a bad imitation of Jaques Tati and Richard Pryor skiing off the side of a skyscraper in a pink blanket.

First off, Lex Luthor-alike villain Ross Webster tries to take out Superman with missiles, the operating system for which plays out like a video game; it even has genuine Atari 2600 sound effects. So far, so goofy. Then when Superman confronts the villains with their giant supercomputer, he becomes bombarded with kryptonite rays, and only then does befuddled computer genius Richard Pryor realize he is a bad guy and tries to destroy his creation.

Then, it gets really strange. The computer goes all Skynet and tries to kill everyone, turning henchwoman Vera into a cyborg that Superman quickly defeats. And how does the Man of Steel stop this super smart creation? He places some acid near it that becomes volatile when heated, which the computer doesn't see as dangerous until it is too late.

So this thing can create kryptonite and cyborg minions, but it can't recognise the chemical properties of some acid? Yeah, this movie really is kind of stupid. The Superman vs. Clark Kent fight that preceded this climax may have been a saving grace, but that doesn't stop this subpar sequel from going out on a really bizarre note.
