10 Worst Comic Book Movies Of All Time

5. Jonah Hex (2010)

Jonah Hex was not a film I had expected to do particularly well at any stage, simply because he is a relatively cultish offshoot of DC's comic book canon, and the layman has likely never even heard of him. Still, with the right team, it could have been a hit, though a surplus of on-set disasters, such as last-minute rewriters, gigantic reshoots, and the studio's arguments with writers Neveldine and Taylor - yes, the very same who directed the previous film - soon put a stop to that. Against $47m, the film made only $10m worldwide, and pretty much the only thing worth praising - or rather, feeling sorry for - is Josh Brolin, who makes a good go with the little he has, but is stopped dead in his tracks by the appalling script and awful direction by Jimmy Hayward, who had previously only worked on animated fare. John Malkovich again places himself inexplicably in harm's way by slumming it, while Megan Fox - who isn't slumming it - can't even live up to the undemanding expectation for her to be eye-candy; she ruins it with a terrible performance to boot. The 81-minute runtime makes of Jonah Hex a busy mess that's big on cliches and small on things like action and interesting characters.
