10 Worst Fates Suffered By Heroes In Horror Movies

8. Dr. David Jordan - Life

Brightburn Ending
Sony Pictures

Dr. Jordan freely accepted his doomed fate when he got into that escape pod. A rapidly developing alien life form had run roughshod over his spaceship, and the risk of it getting to Earth was simply unthinkable.

As a sacrificial lamb, he lures the alien (named Calvin of all things) into his escape pod while, Miranda, the only other survivor, plans to return to Earth in the other pod. Unfortunately, fate had other ideas in mind.

As Jordan's trapped in a pod with the creature, subjected to some kind of bizarre, slimy, nest-making ritual, it gradually hits him that the pods have gone in the wrong directions. His friend he thought he'd saved is heading out into the vast, empty vacuum of space, screaming as the horror of what's to come sinks in.

David, meanwhile, is back on Earth, now completely trapped in whatever the hell it is Calvin's grossly made around him as two fishermen come to investigate. All in all, poor Dr. Jordan lost everyone he worked with, was tortured and quite likely maimed in his escape pod by the monster he'd tried to save Earth from, and then had the weight of his failure thrown in his face before the end credits rolled.

It's a frustrating but undeniably scary ending to one of sci fi horror's more underrated entries in recent years.

John Cunningham hasn't written a bio just yet, but if they had... it would appear here.
