10 Worst Film Couples Of The Last 20 Years

9. Brad Pitt And Julia Roberts - The Mexican

Fifty Shades Freed Dakota Johnson Jamie Dornan
DreamWorks Pictures

The mega wattage beaming out of the trailers for The Mexican drew hoards of unsuspecting viewers to the proposed romantic comedy. Unfortunately, they'd soon find out this wasn't exactly Pretty Woman. (Hell, it wasn't even Runaway Bride.)

The fact that Roberts and Pitt barely share any screen time in what was gleefully advertised as a superstar romance isn't the worst part of their onscreen relationship. It's the utterly joyless interactions between two A-List actors on the edge of their prime who are obviously just passing the time while they collect an easy paycheck.

Then again, the plot pretty much dictates that whoever slides into the roles of Jerry and Samantha were doomed to make the audience cringe. Jerry is a bumbling but well-meaning doofus, while Samantha is a short-tempered and rightfully uptight foil. As we've learned from pretty much every sitcom of from the last four decades, that combination can get very tiring very quickly.

Separately, these two are, as usual, a good bit of fun to watch. But together, they make exactly zero sparks.

In fact, the only real chemistry in this movie is between Roberts and lovable mobster James Gandolfini. But that's certainly not what most people had hoped to see.
