10 Worst Instances Of Marvel Movies Dropping The Ball

6. Wasting Christopher Eccleston In Thor: The Dark World

There was a lot of excitement when Christopher Eccleston - the ninth Doctor himself - was cast as the lead villain in Marvel Studios' Thor sequel, Thor: The Dark World. Malekith the Accursed is an incredibly powerful character in the Marvel comic books. A member of the ancient Dark Elf race, he possesses superhuman strength and physical statistics, as well as high levels of esoteric magical powers. However, he was completely wasted in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as his character was generic, vanilla, underwhelming, underdeveloped and, frankly, presented as being pretty weak. This point actually extends to a general trend of having poor villains in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but this was certainly one of the biggest misses - and biggest disappoints for fans - of the franchise as a whole.
