9. Diamonds Are Forever
Sean Connery's return after George Lasenby refused to shoot any more Bond films (to avoid becoming typecast) was a cause for celebration. A return to the hardened, pitiless Bond the world had come to love was sure to result in an all-time classic. Or not. Diamonds Are Forever is perhaps the tackiest movie in the franchise, placing 007 firmly out of his comfort zone among the glitz and glamour of Las Vegas. Despite boasting one of the best theme tunes in Bond history, the plot of Diamonds fails to live up to expectations. Charles Gray's take on Blofeld comes across as more private school teacher than arch-villain, spouting lines such as "prepare my bath-o-sub" as if ordering a prefect to fetch him some tea. The action sequences are below-par too, the worst being a ludicrous moon buggy chase around the Nevada desert. Worst Moment: 007 two-wheeling a car on its side through a narrow alleyway should be one of the franchise's iconic moments, but it's ruined by an infamous blooper. The car emerges from the alley on the opposite set of wheels, an error unconvincingly masked by some transparent camera trickery.
