10 Worst Moments In The Marvel Cinematic Universe
3. Thor’s Vision Pool - Avengers: Age of Ultron
Joss Whedon himself has admitted he isn't entirely happy with Avengers: Age of Ulton, particularly in regards to trying to balance what he wanted to do with the film with the mandates from Marvel. The result was a lot of scenes being cut, leading to some occasionally choppy storytelling, and nowhere is that more obvious than in the vision pool sequence.
So Thor receives some vague apocalyptic vision as a result of Scarlet Witch's mind control, decides he needs to go to some weird pool with Dr. Selvig to "return to my dream", gets flashes of the Infinity Stones, which then convinces him that Vision is good and he returns to Asgard at the end to stop his vision from coming true. Even after watching the film several times and writing that summation, it's still hard to gage exactly what the point of this subplot was.
Watching the original deleted version where an oracle speaks through Thor doesn't really clarify anything; instead of a quick visual montage, we instead get a Zuul-possessed Chris Hemsworth expositing about the Stones. Not only is this entire sequence confusing, it doesn't tell the audience anything they couldn't gather by just watching the other Marvel movies.
Sure, the Avengers weren't fully aware of them at this point, but there must have been a more elegant solution to them discovering their existence. The only real point the scene ultimately serves is to foreshadow Thor: Ragnarok and Avengers: Infinity War, but it doesn't even do that particularly well.
