10 Worst Movie CGI Of 2020
4. Blood & Muzzle Flashes - Da 5 Bloods
Spike Lee's Da 5 Bloods is one of the most incisive and unforgettable films of the year, and though Lee sensibly avoided using digital de-aging techniques for its flashback scenes given that he had just a fraction of The Irishman's budget, he still got a little sloppy elsewhere.
Though hardly an action-packed film, there are fleeting instances of brutality, especially in the film's third act where a bloody gunfight breaks out.
Sadly, Lee opts for CGI blood squibs and, most egregiously, digital gun muzzle flashes, ensuring that these scenes looks far more like a direct-to-DVD action film than anyone would ever want to admit.
Watching the set-pieces in isolation, you'd likely never guess they were directed by one of the greatest filmmakers of all time, considering how insanely rough around the edges they look.
As much of a pain as resetting practical blood squibs and handling on-set muzzle flashes might be, there's just no substitute for the real deal.
