10 Worst Movie CGI Of 2020
2. Ray Vs. Jimmy - Bloodshot
The Vin Diesel-starring comic book adaptation Bloodshot is all over the place where its visual effects are concerned: some of the more modest action beats look relatively good - especially considering the $45 million budget - while others look absolutely horrendous.
The single sequence where director David S. F. Wilson clearly bit off more than his production could chew sees Ray Garrison aka Bloodshot (Diesel) get into a mid-air tussle with antagonist Jimmy Dalton (Sam Heughan) and his super-soldier pals.
This scene represents the film in primo early-2000s action movie mode: it's full of ugly, cheesy slow-motion, the character physics are totally off, and the digital recreations of the actors' faces resemble unconvincing, inhuman puppets.
You almost have to admire Wilson for even trying to pull off such a complex scene with these resources, but ultimately it's another case where less probably would've been more - at least without the budget to do it right.
