10 Worst Movie CGI Of 2020
1. Green-Screened Tom Hanks - Borat Subsequent Moviefilm
It's no secret that both Borat movies were produced on modest budgets - the recent sequel estimated at $10-20 million - but given that they featured only minimal use of CGI, that's a totally reasonable price tag.
However, Borat Subsequent Moviefilm did offer up one hilariously bad VFX moment - one so awful as to possibly be intentional.
At the end of the film, it's revealed that Borat (Sacha Baron Cohen) was unknowingly patient zero of COVID-19, and ended up giving it to Tom Hanks by coughing on him Australia.
Because flying Cohen and Hanks to the country was neither practical nor worth it for a 15-second cameo, the scene was shot on a green screen, with the pair being composited in front of the Sydney Opera House in post-production.
Between the background looking like the most obvious stock JPG of the landmark and the distractingly blurry outline around both actors, it's not in any way believable that the pair are anywhere but a Los Angeles soundstage.
But unlike every other entry on this list, the possibly-purposeful awfulness only makes the gag that much funnier.
