10 Worst Movie CGI Of 2021
7. Green Screen Fail - He's All That
Because being one of the year's worst movies apparently wasn't bad enough, He's All That - a film that, on the surface, didn't really require any CGI at all - offered up one of the year's most bizarre VFX gaffes.
Not long after the film's release on Netflix, viewers noted on social media that it had a number of peculiar technical issues, perhaps most notably a glitchy green screen during a scene you probably assumed had no CGI whatsoever.
In an early scene where "influencer" Padgett (Addison Rae) is singing at a party, keep an eye on her hand movements and you'll momentarily see her hand just disappear into thin air.
Though most of the compositing in the scene is actually pretty excellent because you probably assumed it was just shot at a real location, the illusion is shattered by this baffling green screen glitch.
That's not even the only issue - about an hour into the film when Padgett is talking to Cameron (Tanner Buchanan), the action in the background inexplicably unfolds in slow-motion, revealing it to be a CGI background plate... for some reason.
Quite why either of these extremely simple scenes needed any VFX work at all is anyone's guess, though the lack of care put into their technical execution really reflects the aggressive laziness of the overall production.
