7. Diarrhea In A Hat - A Million Ways To Die In The West
Universal Pictures
The Scene: Smooth-talking businessman Foy (Neil Patrick Harris) challenges lowly sheep farmer Albert Stark (Seth MacFarlane) to a shooting contest, but the night before their duel, Anna (Charlize Theron) slips a laxative into Foy's drink. The result? Foy shows up to the fight groggy and dehydrated, and when he realises that his bowels are about to escape, snatches an onlooker's hat and takes a giant dump in it, to the disgust of everyone watching. Moments later, he then snatches another hat and repeats his bowel evacuation, after which he walks off, accidentally kicking one of the hats over and sending the excrement pouring out, complete with a vile close-up.
Why It Sucks: Seth MacFarlane's brand of humour may not be the epitome of wit and intellect, but he's a smart writer, as he proved with his hilarious hit Ted. That brilliance is nowhere to be found, however, in this inane bout of toilet humour, which wouldn't really feel out of place in one of the more recent Scary Movie films. Nothing subversive has been done to distinguish it from similar poo gags, and as such it just feels totally out of place in a movie that should be trying much, much harder than this. And the close-up shot of the crap: did we really need to see that? You're better than this, Seth, really...
