10 Worst Movies Ever Released In January

8. Martyrs

Release Date: 22 January 2016

Why It’s Bad: Pascal Laugier’s 2008 original is one of the most compelling and uncompromising horror pictures of the last decade, but this remake does everything wrong. From the casting of generic teens to the spell-it-all-out finale, this is an insult even to paint by numbers filmmaking.

There are some unintentional laughs for fans of the original, however: while Laugier kept his lead character incarcerated and helpless for the second half of the movie, directors Kevin & Michael Goetz allow her to go all Sarah Connor and start taking out the bad guys with a shotgun. Have they never seen The Player?

What The Critics Said: “Shatteringly stupid and repulsively misogynistic, Martyrs mashes revenge, torture and revenge into one solid, quasi-religious lump.” (New York Times)
