10 Worst Movies Ever Released In January
7. The Hitcher
Release Date: 19 January 2007
Why It’s Bad: This remake of the Rutger Hauer classic was produced “in association with Michael Bay”, which explains its soullessness, but even for a movie from the production company that churned out joyless and repressive remakes of Friday The 13th and A Nightmare On Elm Street, The Hitcher is tedious to the point of being unendurable.
Sean Bean does what he can in the lead, but with all the nuance removed from Eric Red’s original story, that involves turning up as the creaky script demands. Tellingly, director Dave Meyers never made another feature and instead returned to making music videos for Justin Bieber and Katy Perry.
What The Critics Said: “You react to this dull shockathon like a wired lab rat who’s seen it all before. And guess what? You have.” (Boston Globe)
