10 Worst Movies From Otherwise Great Franchises
4. Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes Of Grindelwald - Wizarding World Franchise
Other Films: Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 and Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.
The Harry Potter films were a very impressive achievement overall, even though instalments five and six were weaker. The 2016 spin-off movie Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them wasn't outstanding, but it was a very nice, pleasingly simple blockbuster. Still, does it need four sequels?
After all, the first one of these, The Crimes of Grindelwald, was a terrible film that makes the Star Wars Prequels look positively masterful.
Screenwriter J.K. Rowling is a very good storyteller, but it seems that she hasn't been given time to plan out the other films, or indeed Crimes of Grindelwald, and as such the film was an appalling mess of plot holes, dumb twists, empty storytelling and underdeveloped characters that had no structure whatsoever.
The only two things the film was built around was, firstly, a terrible final plot twist and secondly, details setting up the sequels. That's all this movie is: set-up.
Let's just hope the third film restores this franchise to its former glory.
