10 Worst Movies Of 2019 (So Far)

8. Hellboy

Hellboy Daniel Dae Kim
Lionsgate

Hellboy had so much potential to be something special, with its stellar marketing and moody posters promising a unique comic-book film - which is why it was so disappointing when it turned out to be uninspired, by-the-numbers dreck.

It was more than just a disappointing film though, it was an outright bad one. From the opening scene it’s evident something had gone terribly wrong, with the tone and presentation being all over the place, with every single joke feeling like a personal slap in the face.

There’s some absurd choices that work, like Stephen Graham as a big bad banter pig, but the narrative falls short, Milla Jovovich delivers a career-worst performance, and it completely fails to bring to life the most creative, imaginative parts of the comic.

Even worse, for the majority of the film it feels as though the most interesting and exciting parts happen off screen, with our heroes investigating the remnants of a story that sounded way, way better than the one they’re actually in.
