10 Worst Movies Of 2020
7. Dolittle
There's definitely a parallel universe where a Robert Downey Jr.-starring Dolittle reboot could've been a fun time, but slapping a $175 million budget on it and hiring the guy who directed 2005's feel-good classic Syriana clearly wasn't the way to go.
Given the film's much-publicised development troubles, it wasn't remotely surprising that Dolittle was an embarrassing mess of unconvincing visual effects and cringe-worthy writing, but more unexpected was Downey's uncommonly off-key performance in the title role.
Affecting a ridiculous, mumbly "Welsh" accent, the Marvel icon was in full Johnny Depp mode here, channelling his most try-hard, least-charming instincts, and ensuring there were virtually no pleasures to be found throughout.
Despite being thoroughly excoriated by critics and only scarcely recouping its budget, global circumstances still allowed Dolittle to crack the global box office top 10 this year.
