3. Chris ODonnell Robin/Dick Grayson (Batman Forever)
Well everybody knew this one was coming. Much has already been written and said about the fact that Chris ODonnell is far, far, far too old to be playing the character of Robin in this film, but lets rehash anyway. Dick Grayson is meant to be Bruce Waynes ward, who he takes under his wing because Grayson is too young to live on his own. Chris ODonnell seems to be about thirty here, so it makes him less a sympathetic hero, than it does a guy that is going through a severe case of arrested development, who is nowhere near as rebellious as he thinks. However its not simply an age thing its an attitude thing as well. Chris ODonnell is a nice guy, who looks nice, talks nice, and just radiates nice. Urban dictionary should just have a link to his IMDB profile when you type in the word nice. But here he is confusingly trying to play a badass and it just doesnt work. When he is supposed to be cool he just seems like a juvenile dimwit. When he is supposed to be funny, it makes us groan. And when we are supposed to empathise with him and become emotionally invested in his journey, he comes off as an ungrateful free loader. The casting is wrong admittedly, but the performance leaves a lot to be desired. It doesnt help that he is woefully unprepared for crime fighting and does things like dry his laundry using Kung-Fu. But thats probably an issue for a different article entirely.
