10 Worst Performances In 2017 Movies (So Far)

9. Emma Watson - The Circle

Charlie Hunnam King Arthur: Legend Of The Sword

Taking a leaf from Hiddleston's book, Emma Watson turned in a similarly bland performance earlier this year when she starred in The Circle, a James Ponsoldt-directed thriller based on the novel of the same name.

The film - a cautionary tale about the dangers of digital technology as it becomes more and more integral to our daily lives - should have been thought-provoking, and should have made the viewer question their use of social media or reliance on their mobile phone. The Circle does none of these things. It just glosses over them, the movie equivalent of foreplay that doesn't lead to anything more exciting.

Watson's character (Mae) is equally one-note and frustrating to watch. She plods through the movie with a consistently sombre look plastered on her face, never once showing any range. It's odd to see Watson like this since she usually plays brighter, spunkier characters, but here, she's practically sleepwalking.

It's a real shame because the movie did have potential (a 'technology is bad' story couldn't have come out at a better time) and Watson is a true talent. But the actress just doesn't look interested, and when your main character couldn't care less, neither should you.

He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
