10 Worst Performances In Comic Book Movies

9. Paul Giamatti - Rhino (The Amazing Spider-Man 2)

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is a brilliant case of missed opportunities. While there were a lot of good ideas in Andrew Garfield's second portrayal of the wall-crawler, every single decent idea ends up fighting one another for screen time, leading to the whole film being a disjointed mess.

Be that as it may, if there was one idea that was DOA from the very beginning, it was Paul Giamatti as the Rhino.

It seems strange that an actor of Giamatti's caliber is playing a random criminal that Spider-Man needs to apprehend. After he's dealt with at the beginning of the movie, things start to turn a corner when you see Harry Osborn talking with other criminals at the end of the film. The thought of having a full-blown Sinister Six onscreen was something fans would have loved to see, but the introduction of the Rhino ends up being too ridiculous to take seriously.

Coming at the very end of the film, Giamatti's terrible suit and goofy as hell accent makes the whole thing seem like an in-joke the writers had before they shoehorned it into the final script. Just when we gave the movie a chance to redeem itself, the film cuts to black, leaving you to figure it out in the sequel (which never actually happened).

Paul Giamatti is still a tremendous actor, but this kind of role is something that no one would have cared about if it didn't have a famous actor attached to it.
