8. Michael Myers' Motivation - Halloween

Elaborating a little more on Rob Zombie's Halloween, and one thing that split opinion amongst horror hounds was in how it took the mystery behind Michael Myers and laid bare Michael's entire backstory.

As alluded to elsewhere, John Carpenter's Halloween saw a brief scene of a six-year-old Myers killing his sister - and that was all we got, as we were brought forward to the adult Michael on a mission to cause chaos in Haddonfield.

To Zombie's credit, he very much made his two Halloween pictures as 'Rob Zombie' as possible, with both outings overflowing with the style and tone associated with Zombie's filmmaking. But one of the most polarising aspects of these films was in how he took things back and laid Michael's troubles bare.

Zombie's Halloween may not have been a standard prequel, but it spent so much of its movie jumping back in time to elaborate on why Michael Myers became the bogeyman personified. And that motivation was that Michael was bulled from all angles - whether that was at home or at school.

Much like Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning and how it handled the story of Leatherface, audiences just didn't need to see this much of what makes Michael tick. While it was horrible to see the young Myers bullied and abused, the reveal of this being the motivation for what caused him to evolve into the Shape was just not needed.
