Anakin Skywalker was wrong. He was all wrong. From the dialogue to the performance, Anakin Skywalker, from start to finish did not live up to the lofty expectations of a great deal of the fan base. Focusing the prequels on the rise and fall of the Jedi Knight turned Sith Lord Anakin Skywalker was supposed to be the absolute summit for Star Wars fans. After all, Darth Vader was one of the most incredible and revered characters to ever grace the big screen. He was the baddest badass that people had ever seen. Knowing that he had once been a Jedi Knight who fell from grace was something that everyone wanted to see happen. And so, from the moment Padme and Qui-Gon strolled into Watto's junk shop to look for parts, everyone was all primed for something special. Instead, fans got 'Lil Ani'. After sitting through a torturous two hours of Jake Lloyds wooden, bland appearance, (which gave no hint of his future as Darth Vader), Episode II and III gave you older Anakin. Improvement? Not so much. While Hayden Christensen may be a fine actor in his own right, his version of Anakin was whiny, petulant and, save for a few moments (Shmis death comes to mind, where he was actually good), utterly disappointing. Much of the blame falls squarely on the shoulders of George Lucas and whatever script doctors he employed. Anakin Skywalker should have been a tragic hero, a sympathetic figure. He was a character who the movie-going public should have rooted for, even though his demise was imminent. Characters like this come along seldomly, and when they do, fans are usually watching along and praying that said character will make the right choice, the smart choice, the better choice, all the while knowing that they won't. At no point did anyone feel this way with Anakin.
A self professed Stephen King/Star Wars geek and pop culture neophyte, Scott tends to spend much of his time alone pondering life's greatest mysteries.....he also depends heavily on his son Liam, a great sounding board, to set him straight on Star Wars issues and gives him advice on what EXACTLY he's doing wrong.
