9. Thomas Lennon - The Dark Knight Rises
We all know that Christopher Nolan likes to populate the smaller roles of his films with familiar or semi-familiar faces, as well as giving reprises to screen talents who perhaps need a hand back up to prominence (like Matthew Modine). And sometimes that backfires, as with Modine, who was largely terrible in The Dark Knight Rises. One of the strangest casting moves was hiring comedy actor Thomas Lennon as Bruce Wayne's doctor, whose only job in the film is to run through a list of ailments afflicting the billionaire with something approaching haughty derision. The scene is obviously played for laughs, given how the lines are delivered and Lennon's profile, and it's difficult not to feel like it was shot entirely for the purposes of the trailer, where it had far more impact than in the finished film.
