10 Worst Things Superman Has Ever Done In The Films
8. Becoming Selfish And Splitting In Two (Thanks To Flawed Kryptonite)
The whole legacy of Superman is based around the idea that he is a good man (Kryptonian), raised by humble people with good values, yet has the ability to do anything without many being able to so much as lay a glove on him.
The point is that he chooses to use his power responsibly because of who he is as Clark Kent. This was put to the test when he was exposed to flawed Kryptonite and became selfish in Superman III.
Rather infamously, he righted the leaning tower of Pisa and extinguished the Olympic flame during this time before splitting into two. One part represents the good man that is Clark Kent, while the other is the selfish and evil part of his ego as Superman.
Whilst Superman III wasn't much to write home about - which makes what comes later about Superman IV even worse - the sequence of him fighting himself for the good of his soul is actually brilliant.
The whole fight represents what Superman and Clark are constantly struggling against, namely the power of a God that is wielded by a farm boy from Smallville, Kansas.
So, we do get to see the worst of Superman fully exposed as a Kryptonian, and the simple boy raised by a humble family go toe to toe - with the boy winning and once again being unified as Superman.
