2. Mickey Rourke Is Left On The Cutting Room Floor (Iron Man 2)
This one really stings. Mickey Rourke was coming off a universally acclaimed performance in The Wrestler and looked to bring an intensity to Iron Man 2 that would elevate the sequel beyond even the beloved original. The trailers painted him as a silent savage on a personal mission to destroy Tony Stark, but the film completely failed to deliver on the promises of the character. For a guy who honed a Russian accent, and spent time in the country all in an effort to add some layers to the character, it was pretty devastating that all the hard work he spoke of was nowhere to be seen. Most of these details came from Rourke after the fact, but fans didnt need him telling them what they missed to realize that Ivan Vanko had been portrayed as a completely one-dimensional villain. This may be the biggest case of what-if in the entirety of the MCU. The fully-formed character Rourke created may not have saved Iron Man 2, but its pretty clear that there was a lot more that we never got to see.
