10 Worst Western Movies Of Past 20 Years

5. Forsaken

The typical facets of a western, the gunslinging protaganist, his ruthless opponents and the helpless folk of the frontier have continuosly played a key role in westerns. With so many releases under that banner, it only gets harder to stand out. Forsaken from 2015 is one of those middle-of-the-road efforts.

In an interesting twist, Forsaken features the father and son duo of Donald and Kiefer Sutherland taking the lead in the film's plot. In a bid to repair the relationship with his estranged father, John Henry Clayton (Kiefer) returns home, only to find the settlement under threat from bandits.

The film does have some merit in its contrast between the two leads; John Henry Clayton is a more practical individual with greater experience in firearms and survival skills. On the other hand Reverend Samuel (Donald) sticks close to his faith and is greatly averse to killing. In order to save their town, the two need to put their differences behind them and find a way forward.

Forsaken isn't quite the worst entry on the list, but when you have so many far superior westerns to compare it to, it stands out as painfully average. None of what it does is all that memorable and both Kiefer and Donald have done much better work in other productions.
