Like League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, Van Helsing reached into the literary past in an attempt to jump-start a new franchise. Hugh Jackman starred in this howling awful rehash of Universal Studio's monster movie crossover phase. Critics heaped scorn on the unintentionally hilarious fiasco that, again, like The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, misguidedly ends on the promise of more whacky adventures to come. Even though it grossed $300 million worldwide everyone involved decided to quit while they were ahead.
