10 Would-Be Franchises That Failed At The First Hurdle

Megastar producer Jerry Bruckheimer tried to recapture the magic of his Pirates of The Caribbean franchise with his 2010 video game adaptation Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time. Despite the swashbuckling derring-do promised by the CGI-heavy trailers and Jake Gyllenhaal's admittedly impressive abs, North American audiences rejected the would-be mega-franchise. Although it went on to become the highest grossing video game adaptation of all-time worldwide, Bruckheimer and co felt its paltry North American box office (making a little over $90 million against a $200 million budget) didn't warrant a follow-up. Hopefully, Bruckheimer's next mega-franchise, The Lone Ranger, will return Bruckheimer to his winning ways but the early buzz and box office are not very promising.
