10 WTF Horror Movie Scenes Inspired By Real Life

What would any Final Destination movie be without a wildly over-the-top opening premonition sequence, in which dozens - if not hundreds - perish in an insane accident while a few "lucky" ones manage to cheat death (for now)?

Jeffrey Reddick wrote the original film's script after reading a story about a woman heading home from her holiday and, during a phone call with her mother, was advised to take another flight home as she had a bad feeling about the one she'd booked.

The daughter complied, switching her flight to another, after which her original intended plane crashed. This went on to inspire the first film's spectacular plane crash sequence, which was of course featured prominently in Final Destination 5, also.

As for the other movies in the series, The Final Destination's McKinley Speedway catastrophe is said to be inspired by the real-life 1955 Le Mans disaster, which killed 84 people and caused 180 further injuries.

The North Bay Bridge collapse at the start of Final Destination 5, meanwhile, was reportedly an homage to the 1940 Tacoma Narrows Bridge collapse, which thankfully only counted a single dog among its victims.
