2. A Nude Battle At The Gates Of Hell
The final showdown features Amleth and his murdering uncle Fjölnir as they fight to the death next to a very active volcano. The biggest WTF moment leading up to this battle was when Amleth decided to abandon his newly pregnant wife on a boat and swim back to the island to avenge his father. Motivated by a lot of "What If"s and the fact that he believes he will forever be haunted by regret, he decides to choose a fate of death.
This scene was frustrating and left the viewer to wonder if Amleth was bound to the quest by the curse his father set on his brother when he was murdered or if Amleth thought that his uncle would come after his family one day. Either way, it ends with the two men battling it out while wearing absolutely nothing and wielding their swords at each other.
In the end, both men are taken to Valhalla via the white horse of Valkyrie, and we can hear Olga's calm voice as she reassures Amleth that he will be with them forever. It's a strange one as a lot of the time; you are questioning the decisions made. Despite never displaying his emotions, Amleth clearly had a strong bond with Olga and died happy, knowing that his bloodline would continue.
