10 WTF Scenes In Otherwise Awesome Recent Movies
1. Ilsa's Death - Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One
The latest Mission: Impossible certainly wasn't the best movie in the series, but compared to the majority of action flicks hitting big screens these days, it was positively terrific.
That is, except for that creative call with regard to the fate of the series' best character, male or female - Ilsa Faust (Rebecca Ferguson).
After Ilsa's death was faked-out in the film's opening sequence, she's actually killed for real by terrorist Gabriel (Esai Morales) at the end of the second act, to the enormous disappointment of most fans.
Ilsa has been a standout Mission: Impossible character ever since her debut in the fifth film, Rogue Nation - a much-needed corrective to the series' famous revolving door policy for its leading ladies.
And so, killing Ilsa off rather than keeping her a franchise mainstay to the finish line left a majorly sour taste, especially as the movie even had Gabriel remind Ethan (Tom Cruise) of his disposable female companions and wasted little time transitioning in a new love interest by way of Grace (Hayley Atwell).
Though fans are crossing their fingers that Ilsa's death could be undone in Dead Reckoning Part Two, it'll also run the risk of feeling totally cheap and undermine whatever notion of life-or-death stakes this series actually has.
Then again, another fake-out is probably preferable to Ilsa just being dead.
