10 X-Men Characters Who Deserve Their Own Spin-Off
4. Magneto
A Magneto movie was almost a lock at one point - until Fox decided that young audiences didn't want to see a film based around the exploits of an elderly supervillain. Idiots. When that character is played by Ian McKellan, considered one of the coolest old guys in Hollywood along with Patrick Stewart and George Takei, and beloved for his portrayals of Gandalf in The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings movies and Magneto in the X-Men films, you make the movie. To repeat: you make the movie. Now that Michael Fassbender has taken up the reigns as young Erik Lehnsherr, perhaps the studio will change its mind, but it may be too late. Days of Future Past gave fans a further look at the origins of the character, and both Fassbender and McKellan appeared, providing a look at both editions of Magneto in one rather spectacular film. Would another look at Magneto's past be overkill? Would a random standalone story work as well? That said, it's still worth the gamble.
