64. Annie Wilkes - Misery
Played By: Kathy Bates Like many Stephen King novels, Misery possesses an excellent villain and Annie Wilkes is one of his finest. She is a paranoid, disturbed manic-depressive who hides behind a facade of happiness. She is obsessive over author Paul Sheldon and controls and tortures him so he never leaves her - her love of holding control over people is what makes her so frightening as it becomes clear her sanity has long ago abandoned her. The extremity of the character is shocking and it is one of the most unnerving performances by an actress in the history of film.
63. Roy Batty - Blade Runner
Played By: Rutger Hauer Roy Batty is another tragic villain, he is bruising and relentless but all he really wants is to know why he has to die. He's the punchline of a harsh, unforgiving world and whilst he commits some truly horrible crimes it is impossible to not sympathise with him as although he is a machine, he is one of cinema's most human characters. An excellent speaker and his famous speech does not need repeating and the most interesting thing about the character is his wondering about morality whilst continuing to commit so many immoral acts. He is not the personification of evil and he's not even the most sinister thing in the movie with his capacity for empathy but he is a ruthless killer and would not hesitate to bring death upon anyone who gets in his way.
62. Combo - This is England
Played By: Stephen Graham Combo represents the dark side of the skinhead movement and he possesses all the reprehensible traits of the British nationalist - he's a racist, a thug, a bully, a white supremacist and National Front supporter. He can explode into violence at any moment, his short-temper and inferiority complex always ruling over his better judgement. Combo is not presented without sympathy, however, as he is shown tortured by lost love and his paternal relationship with Thomas Turgoose's Shaun is intriguing and excellently written. Combo is a vicious bulldog and his climactic assault on the black Milky was one of the most harrowing scenes of the last decade.
