3. Godfather Part III (1990)

Let me start by saying that this film is not as bad as everybody says it is. Saying that, it couldn't match the bar set by parts one & two and that is what makes it a let down. Apparently quite happy with the way The Godfather 2 finished, director Francis Ford Coppola was tempted back to make a third film by Paramount who already had a first draft of the script ready and by Coppola's own financial situation, which was bordering on grim. Coppola made a number of revisions to the script including a major rewrite when Robert Duval refused to return as Tom Hagen. The other person that gets the blame for The Godfather 3's failings is Sofia Coppola who was cast as Mary Corleone after the likes of Julia Roberts, Madonna and Winona Ryder dropped out. Her acting is so bad that it became a distraction and is one of the main reasons to watch the film. Overall, the weak link in the Godfather trilogy.
